Behcet’s syndrome also known as the Behcet’s disease is an inflammatory disorder that affects blood vessels throughout the body. Main Symptoms of Behcet’s Syndrome
Mouth or Genital Sores
Mouth sores are one of the most common symptoms of Behcet’s syndrome. These sores are considered to be very painful and often appear to be like canker sores. The mouth sores soon turn into raised and round lesions that eventually pain a lot. They need at least a couple of weeks to heal. Though, it heals within few weeks, they tend to recur.
In addition, people suffering from Behcet’s syndrome also get genital sores, which mostly develop in the vulva or the scrotum area. These genital sores develop as red lesions that are extremely painful and are known to leave behind scars on healing.
Skin rashes, lesions and sores are a common sight when people are suffering from Behcet’s syndrome. These are considered to be among the common symptoms of this painful disease.
The skin problems may differ from one person to another in Behcet’s syndrome but commonly many people develop skin rashes. Some people experience red, tender and raised nodules on various parts of their skin, particularly on the lower part of the legs.
Problems in the Eyes
Behcet’s syndrome brings along a lot of eye related problems such as inflammation, blurred vision and redness in the eyes that are common symptoms of this syndrome. Eye problems can occur in one or both the eyes, which may come and heal on its own over a period of time. However, the inflammation affecting the retina due to inflammation of the blood vessels is considered to be a major complication.
Joint Pain and Swelling
Pain and inflammation of the joints are yet another serious symptom of Behcet’s syndrome. Though joint pain and swelling can occur due to many other reasons, if you notice this problem along with other symptoms of Behcet’s syndrome, it may be wise to visit your doctor.
The wrists, elbows and ankles are mostly affected due to Behcet’s syndrome. The symptoms of joint pain and inflammation in this disease are observed to last for 1-3 weeks.
Damaged Vascular System
Behcet’s syndrome also affects the vascular system and is considered to be a common symptom of this disease. Inflammation, redness, and pain are some of the main discomforts caused due to the blood clot in the Behcet’s syndrome.
