Common Symptoms Of Neck Arthritis

Neck arthritis, a common kind of arthritis among people is disease which gives a lot of pain to the neck and shoulders. Neck arthritis is usually due to any of the three conditions of arthritis namely Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. But the most common form of arthritis in the neck is due to the arthritis condition called osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is also known as Cervical Arthritis or Cervical Spondylosis. Neck pain is the main symptom of Osteoarthritis. The facet joints in the cervical spine degenerates leading to Cervical Osteoarthritis.

Signs & Symptoms of Neck Arthritis

Pain in Shoulder

Osteoarthritis usually begins with pain in the shoulder or the area between the shoulder blades. Mornings are begun with severe pain or stiffness. This pain relieves as soon as you get up and move around. By the end of the day, pain would increase and rest can give you great relief. Neck arthritis also includes headaches. Headaches are usually experienced at the back of the head.

Osteophytes or cervical bone spurs are the major symptom of Osteoarthritis. Cervical bone spurs may affect the nerves and this can lead to pain into the arms. If Osteoarthritis affects the spinal cord, it can cause ailments of the spinal cord and the person will be experiencing cervical myelopathy.

The symptoms of cervical arthritis or Osteoarthritis may range. The most common symptoms of this disease are stiffness and pain in the neck. The pain can be decreased while in a standing position than in a lying position.

The pain aggravates at night. This is because the muscle necks do not support the spine while in a resting posture. The support of the neck muscles is necessary for the arthritis affected neck.

Pain in Cervical arthritis is not always concentrated on the neck region. It can spread to the head, the chest wall, the chest wall, the upper back and the shoulder blades. But the source of the pain is always from the neck region. Thus a person suffering from cervical arthritis experiences multiple pains at a time.

People affected with cervical arthritis also experience signs of neurological problems. Numbness, burning sensation, weakness, tingling sensation, electric pains and shooting pains towards the arm, hand and forearm are the major neurological signs. As time passes by, the patient experiences a worse condition of pain and medical aid should be provided. Such a stage can cause damage to the spinal cord. Hence it is advisable to approach a medical practitioner during the earlier stage of the disease.

Headache is yet another symptom of cervical arthritis. The back of the head will be experiencing headache and the person will experience dizziness and loss of balance as he advances to the next stage.

The other minor symptoms include ringing in the ear or Tinnitus, Trouble while walking as a result of weakness in the legs, Trouble in swallowing food or water or Dysphagia and Chest pain near the region of heart or Pseudoangina.
