3 Common Causes Of Infectious Arthritis

Common Causes Of Infectious Arthritis

Germs which travel through the body, reach certain joints which can cause infectious arthritis. It is also known as septic arthritis; this type of arthritis is not well known to most people across the globe. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous forms of acute arthritis.

The germs which enter your body could be virus, bacteria and fungi. They could enter body from anywhere- skin, ears, nose etc. It is more prone to people having suppressed immune systems and can affect anyone at any age. It is more common in patients with cancer, diabetes, type IV drug abuses, systematic infections etc.

Infectious Arthritis Caused by Bacteria

The bacterium that causes infectious arthritis can be:

1. Staphylococcus and is most common in adults.
2. Neisseria gonorrhea causes this disease in young adults
3. Haemophilus influenzae is the cause in children
4. E.coli is caused in the elderly people.

Bacterial Infection

The acute types of diseases are caused by bacteria like streptococcus pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus or gonococci, group B streptococci. Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes endocarditis and infection in joints; it is particularly predominant in children who are sustaining a puncture wound.

Chronic septic arthritis is very rare and is caused by microorganisms like M. tuberculosis. While Pathogens that are responsible for causing hepatitis B, HIV, mumps or rubella can get into your body and even infect your joints.

Infectious Arthritis Caused by Fungi

Arthritis caused due to fungal infection is also known as mycotic arthritis. The microorganisms causing it may affect a bone or joint tissue and sometimes even more than one joint. There are different kinds of fungus which enter through different parts of the body some of which are:

Blastomycosis is a rare infection which is caused when you inhale a fungus called blastomyces dermatitisdis, which is found in soil and wood. Candidaisis is a vaginal yeast infection due to fungus Candida albicans. Coccidioides immitis is the fungus which enters through your lungs. Cryptococcosis is infection cause of cryptococcosis neoformans fungus.

Histoplasmosis infection occurs from breathing in spores of the fungi Histoplasma capsulatum. Sporotrichosis is a chronic long term skin infection due to a certain type of fungus. The infection of arthritis sometimes is also caused as a result of an infection in another body organ.

Infectious Arthritis Caused by Virus

Alterations in the immune system could lead to acute forms of arthritis which is characterized by inflammation of the joints which is caused by viral infection. There are 2 types of viruses causing arthritis:

It is an extremely rare kind of virus and is caused in patients who have a chronic relapsing from Hepatitis A and high titer of polyclonal IgG and IgM circulating cryoglobulins.

Hepetitus A

It is common in young children having abnormal liver function and histolgic features are considered having hepatitis B viral arthritis.

Hepetitus B

People suffering from diseases such as HIV, Cancer etc. that can potentially weaken the immune system make them more prone to Infectious Arthritis. Using intravenous drugs can also by and large increase the chances of Infectious Arthritis.
